We teach that the first sin is one of disobedience to God’s decree by Adam and Eve, this sin broke man’s natural communion with God and brought death into this world. Those of us that have come after Adam and Eve are not guilty of their sin, but are rather affected and infected by all the consequences of the fallen condition. In Greek “sin” means to “miss the target.” Sin is not the breaking of a coral code but the breaking of a relationship, missing the target of love, of likeness to God. It is a misdirection of man’s will and energies away from their true target of life with God. With the help of the Church and often with great difficulty or struggle it is possible to overcome sin, to be holy and grow eternally in union with the grace of God.
